There are two puppies left, out of the litter of five. Tiny #1 and Tiny #2 died the afternoon and evening that Zhuoma left for Weixi, which was the day after Jumbo had suddenly ballooned to about 3x their size. I think they got out-competed for milk.

Small died two nights ago. I had been trying to micromanage him into living the two days previous to that, but he simply wasn't eating.

As part of trying to help Small survive, I had moved them all from the original nest to a puppy crate full of cloth that Zhuoma had previously created as Squeak's bed, and left the crate in a spot which would get sun in the morning. I figured the cold where they were born might have been unhealthy.

Bad mistake.

This morning, I woke up kind of late to Medium and Jumbo both screaming. I go outside and Squeak is right outside my door, whimpering. My plan had worked flawlessly — they were in the direct sun. They were also at the end of the crate, desperately trying to move toward the shade.

Hopefully this overheating experience didn't doom them. Jumbo recovered quickly when I moved the box further into the shade. Medium wasn't moving around much. Happily, they both seem to be doing okay now.

Now I know that I should have left them where they were originally: where it was cold.
