Watched Penn and Teller: Bullshit: Recycling:
Maybe it does take more energy in a rich U.S. suburb to recycle a plastic bottle than to make a new one, but I know that here you are paid to recycle (glass, plastic bottles, cardboard and aluminum cans). I wonder how it is that the U.S. recycling industry could be so much less efficient? Minimum wage laws?

Great show, eh?
I was on a huge Bullshit kick about a year and a half ago, what an awesome show. This is one of the better episodes as well.
um, maybe government
um, maybe government subsidies?
The recycling I've seen
The recycling I've seen involves old men and women doing things like finding discarded plastic bottles or cardboard in trash cans, buying used beer bottles from bars, or shaving bristles off old toothbrushes. Think more like Dharavi and less like Large State Sponsored Generic Recycling Corporation. I'm guessing no government subsidies are involved.
