The Effect of an Idea

‹ Diseases | Poor Little Bunny ›
()

I drew these diagrams 2 weeks ago to try to express to myself how different ideas affect my mental state. A new idea that I agree with tends to be in the foreground of my mind for a few days or weeks (or months) after I hear it. I tend to repeat it in conversations and play around mentally with how it relates to other things I believe in.

A new idea that I disagree with tends to do the same thing.

An idea that I think is poorly justified or poorly argued tends to affect my thinking very little at all. At best, it will cause me to think about why I dismiss it so quickly.

jtr at one point said that I have this tendency to pick a few new things and take them to extremes. I think he might have been referring to this tendency of mine.

I wish I could say I was drunk when I drew these, because that would be funny.  But I wan't.
