Just now, a house burned down in the old town. The fire department arrived and was spraying water on the house when Zhuoma said we should go back to the bar. One reason was to let our bar worker go gawk, and another reason was apparently I move around like Frankenstein's monster and wouldn't be able to move out of the way of danger in time if we stayed there longer.

Travel in Yunnan
Hi there,
I was cruising around the web and found some links to this page. I was just wondering if you know any routes from gongshan to shangri-la or lijang that don't involve heading along way south to liuku or a long way north. I would consider heading up through Deqin and back south. Thanks for the information.

This is my personal journal. You'd do better to ask here, as you'll get the benefit of potentially getting more responses.
Lijiang
Hi Wesley,
Are you still in Lijiang? I am hoping to get there to teach English. Do you know of any scholls looking for teachers?
Cheers

Re: Lijiang
I actually never lived in Lijiang. Finding teaching jobs is relatively more difficult in Yunnan than in other places because it's a popular place to live. But it should be possible to show up there and find something or other, especially if you have experience.
